Member-owned electric cooperative

Net metering with Mountain View Electric Association

Mountain View Electric Association (MVEA) is a member-owned cooperative serving communities along the eastern foothills and plains of the Colorado Front Range, including parts of Elbert, El Paso, Lincoln, and Douglas counties. As a cooperative, MVEA governs its own net metering and interconnection program through its board — independent of the Colorado PUC.

How it works, step by step

1

Interconnection through MVEA's program

Going solar with MVEA starts with an interconnection application reviewed by the co-op's operations team. Seed Solar prepares your application, confirms your equipment meets MVEA's Small Generation Interconnection Standards, and manages the approval process.

2

Real-time solar offsets your grid purchases

Solar generated during the day is consumed by your home first, reducing what you buy from MVEA at the retail rate. Anything your home doesn't use immediately is exported to the grid.

3

Exported energy earns bill credits

Your bi-directional meter records what you export, and MVEA credits that energy on your account under its net metering tariff. Credits can offset grid usage in less sunny periods.

4

True-up at year end

Remaining banked credits at the annual true-up are settled at a rate set by MVEA's tariff — typically below full retail. Sizing your system to match your annual usage keeps most of your production at full retail-offset value.

Good to know

  • MVEA's rules are set by its board and can change between rate cases — we confirm the current interconnection and net metering terms before designing your system.
  • The eastern foothills and plains served by MVEA often see excellent solar resources, making right-sized systems especially productive.
  • Battery storage can help you capture more of your solar value by reducing exports and keeping energy available after dark.
